Laboratories for a continuous casting plant and a plate rolling mill in Russia
The Magnitogorsk metallurgical combine (MMK) placed an order with SMS Demag for a continuous casting plant and a plate rolling mill including electrics and automation.
The continuous casting plant will be used to produce slabs with a thickness of up to 300 mm at a casting speed of 2.0 m per minute.
The plate rolling mill is designed for an annual output of approx. 1.5 million tons. Production will focus on feedstock for large gas and oil pipes as well as bridge construction and ship building.
MMK is one of Russia's leading steel producers. The roll stand ordered will be one of the world's most powerful mills.
As a partner in a consortium with SMS Demag, Steiner Chemie u. Labortechnik GmbH will be responsible for 1,200 sq.m. laboratories for chemical analysis, research and development as well as material testing for these two plants. The complete labs will be supplied as turnkey units. Commissioning of the plants is scheduled for 2009.
