Two laboratories completed for MMK Plate Mill 5000 project

The laboratories for a continuous casting plant and a plate rolling mill for Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine (MMK) were completed in November 2009, well within the planned timeframe. Five lab rooms (test preparation, pickling, metallography, microscopy and material testing) were delivered ready for operation. Lab furniture, a flue, as well as an advanced pickling plant were set up, and all lab and testing equipment as well as machine tools were checked for proper functioning and commissioned. MMK’s laboratory technicians and material testers were trained by employees from both manufacturers and Steiner Chemie.

The labs had been accepted in October 2009, with the participation of Ms. Steiner.

I travel a lot, but it’s rare to meet so many helpful, competent and nice people. Working with Pjotr was and still is particularly enjoyable, as he always knows what to do and keeps coming up with great solutions; I also very much liked working with Rustam Ismagilov who helped us find spare parts in Magnitogorsk even after office hours, and of course with the rest of the team.
My special thanks go to the SMS employees at Magnitogorsk and here in Germany who were extremely helpful throughout the project.
